Our first issue of 2014 has a bit of a double focus with emphasis on both the vestibular system and professional and systemic interaction. Authors Jeff Brocket, James Ralphs, and Deanna Dye, all part of a multidisciplinary team at Idaho State University describe issues and experiences of Idaho State's unique interprofessional and transdisciplinary approach to patient care. Specifically, they share that team's perspectives on using a transdisciplinary approach in the assessment of patients with dizziness and/or balance concerns. The assessment and management of the vestibular system among clients with cochlear implants is discussed by Steven Doetti, Kristine Lassen, Alison Whittle, and John Little, an interprofessional team from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Knoxville. Finally, Laurie King of Oregon Health & Science University's Department of Neurology examines the complex and interactive network of sensorimotor systems that contribute to balance control, including, but not limited to, the vestibular mechanism.
