As with previous issues, we have attempted to represent the diversity among our affiliates in the content. There are five articles from four different contributor groups. Each one focuses on a unique aspect of hearing, spanning the full range of our division’s title: Hearing and Hearing Disorders: Research and Diagnostics. In the first article, Ashley Harkrider summarizes her recent work in the area of nicotine’s effects on the auditory system. The next paper comes from our colleagues at the House Ear Clinic and provides a glimpse into the rapidly changing world of cochlear implants. Next, Jim Thelin and Donna Fisher Smiley discuss “international audiology” in their summary of the work of the World Health Organization. Finally, Honor O’Malley recounts two recent experiences from the Real World. I hope you find this batch of articles interesting and useful. As always, I am eager to learn of your suggestions regarding topics for articles. Even better, I would be delighted to discuss any written contributions (e.g., short research articles, case studies, product reviews, lab techniques, funding opportunities, etc.) you would care to make. So, please drop me a line.
