In May of this year, ASHA sponsored a conference on interdisciplinary research in communication sciences and disorders. Twenty-two different organizations plus 10 Special Interest Division of ASHA were represented. Craig Champlin, the Coordinator for the division, attended the meeting.
The main goal of the forum was to explore interest in establishing an organization that would encourage research in human communication sciences and disorders (HCSD). Among the specific objectives discussed were:
  • To expand and improve the PhD pipeline;

  • To increase funding and advocacy for financial resources for HCSD research;

  • To develop a national (or international) forum for HCSD research;

  • To improve and expand HCSD research.
