SIG 6 Perspectives on Hearing and Hearing Disorders: Research and Diagnostics, October 1998, Vol. 2, 8. doi:10.1044/hhd2.1.8
Jan Ingham (VP for Research and Technology), Fred Spahr (Executive Director), and Sharon Moss (Director, Research Resources & Advocacy) met over the last few months with directors of some of the institutes of the National Institutes of Health supporting research within communication sciences and disorders (James Battey, National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders; and Duane Alexander, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development). The visits to NIH were part of a larger initiative to increase the awareness and understanding on the part of NIH senior management regarding the applied and basic research within the professions. ASHA’s objective is also to demonstrate support of the missions of the various institutes and to ultimately share information with members that would increase the likelihood of successful grant submissions.
