We have several sponsored sessions for this year’s ASHA Convention. The Short Course on Sunday morning is “Function of the Middle Ear: Advances in Understanding and Assessment,” by John Rosowski and John Durrant. It will provide an update on emerging techniques for understanding middle ear function and the clinical applications of these techniques. Remember that special interest division members receive a 50% discount on division-sponsored Short Courses, so be sure to attend!
We are also sponsoring a special session on Friday afternoon on “Perspectives on Hearing Loss in Aging,” with Karen Cruickshanks, Robert Frisina, Jr., Sandra Gordon-Salant, and Howard Hoffman. This session will present perspectives on aging research, including behavioral, physiological, and epidemiological approaches, and will conclude with research and clinical issues yet to be answered. On Friday morning is a special seminar on “Speech Intelligibility and Articulation Index Modeling in Diseased Ears,” by Chris Halpin, Aaron Thornton, and Ellen O’Neil. This seminar will discuss the theory of the articulation index and its clinical application to predicting benefits from surgery and/or hearing aids.
