Welcome to the Division 6 Perspectives! The theme of this issue is evidence-based practice (EBP). EBP is the integration of clinical expertise and best current evidence to make clinical decisions, and it is a Focused Initiative in the strategic plans of both ASHA and Division 6. Information about EBP, how it works, and how you can get involved can be obtained through ASHA’s National Center for Evidence-Based Practice in Communication Disorders (N-CEP). Log onto ASHA’s Web site at www.asha.org/members/ebp/ for details.
In this issue of Perspectives, the authors explore the principles and demonstrate ways in which EBP can be applied to particular topics in hearing assessment (vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials, auditory processing disorders, and multifrequency tympanometry) and re/habilitation (multichannel compression hearing aids). We thank the authors for their time and effort in helping us meet our goal of increasing awareness of EBP. We also thank Shaum Bhagat, our Perspectives Subcommittee chair, and Craig Champlin, our Editor, for their tireless efforts in the publication process. Dr. Bhagat played dual roles in this issue helping to coordinate content authoring an article. We are very lucky to have you!
